You shouldn’t have to own your home to save money with solar power

At Smartr™ Solar, it's our mission to bring the money-saving benefits of solar power to tenants by making solar a great investment for their landlords.

Smartr Solar: Company: Sustainable Solar Solutions

OUR STORY

How it all started

Smartr™ Solar was founded by brothers Justin & Ian Evans. With experience owning and operating a small portfolio of residential single-family and multi-family rental properties in their home state of Pennsylvania, and a strong desire to help the world transition to clean, renewable energy, the two set out to make solar energy accessible to the ~37% of the housing market who wasn't being served; Landlords and their tenants.

Justin T. Evans, CES: Founder & CEO Smartr Solar

With 5+ years of experience as the Lead 1031 Exchange Consultant at one of the largest 1031 Exchange companies in Southern California, Justin has assisted thousands of real estate investors in evaluating their real estate investments, and consulted on deals ranging from $100k to $100ml+.

In his role, Justin became the go-to 1031 consultant for some of the country’s largest and most prominent real estate investors and firms, along with their legal, tax & financial advisors.

With a background in real estate investing, finance and tax, Justin decided to use his background to make installing solar power for tenants a better investment for landlords than stocks, bonds or even real estate*, helping tenants save 20-30% on their monthly electric bills*, and helping the world transition to clean, renewable energy.

Ian R. Evans, Founder & COO of Smartr Solar

After years of managing rental properties, Ian discovered the solar industry while pursuing a dual-degree in cognitive science & machine learning (i.e. Artificial Intelligence / A.I.) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

While he originally planned on selling solar on the side to help put himself through school, Ian couldn't resist the opportunity to develop a relatively untapped section of the solar industry - rental properties - and quickly went full-time at Smartr™.

Applying his background in computer science and A.I., Ian oversees development of Smartr's custom software - the first of its' kind - that's used to accurately track tenant's use of solar energy, ensuring that they're never overcharged for power and that the landlords offering solar to their tenants are always in compliance with state and federal energy laws.

Justin T. Evans, CES: Founder & CEO Smartr Solar

After a legal career spanning over three decades, Reg Evans made his foray into the solar industry in 2020. Inspired by renewable energy’s impact on our planet, and its positive financial impact on families across the country, Reg and his sons set out to make the savings from solar power accessible to the ~37% of U.S. households who rent, rather than own their homes. Together, they founded Smartr™ Solar.

In addition to serving as General Counsel to Smartr™, Reg is partner in a law firm where his practice focuses on financial institution regulation, mergers and acquisitions, and public policy. Prior to joining the firm, Reg was chief counsel to a state banking regulatory agency; executive director and general counsel to an industry trade association representing automobile dealerships, finance companies, and wholesale vehicle auctions in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware; chairman of the financial services department at another law firm; adjunct instructor at Penn State University where he taught real estate finance to college students; and chairman of a national law conference for banking regulatory attorneys in the fifty states.

Reg is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New York, and is a graduate of Cornell University and Georgetown University Law Center.
